LAKE BALATON
The area around the lake is extremely varied with
regular access points all the way round. Some areas are left to grow
naturally as reed beds, with large cuts into them for access to the
water, whereas some areas are landscaped parkland, with food, bars,
attractions and water flumes going directly into the lake. |

|
A car ferry runs regularly across the lake from the Tihany peninsula on
the north side to Zamardi on the south.
Passenger ferries visit all the major towns on the lake, making it easy to
visit and shop in other parts of the lake.
Attractions around the lake include Equestrian Centres, Pony Trecking,
Air sports, Caves, Go Karting Tracks, Night Clubs in nearby
towns,
( not within walking distance of the house ), Gourmet foods, (at very
reasonable prices), and as the whole area is a wine region, excellent
Wines.
In winter up to 8" of ice covers the lake ~ perfect for winter
sports (ie. skating, ice-yachting etc).
Bicycles are an ideal way to get around on the cycle path which
encircles most of the lake. These can be rented and repaired in many
places locally.

|
- There are numerous spas and hot springs around the lake, the most famous of which is at
Hévíz,
- whose crater lake (138' deep) creates a natural therapeutic bath of up to 38º for year round bathing.
